By Fr Richard DSouza

April 25 : Easter vigil was held in Mai De Deus Church, Puttur on 20th April 2019 at 7.00 p.m. to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Rev.Fr. Alfred J. Pinto and Rev. Fr. Praveen D’Souza were present for the Mass. The ceremonial Mass began with blessing of fire and lighting of the candles from the Holy fire. Pascal candle was blessed and lighted with new fire by Rev. Fr. Praveen D’Souza. As the candle was taken down the aisle, parishioners lit the candles from the flame, illuminating the area in candle light. Water was blessed and the Holy water was sprinkled on all those who were present.

Rev. Fr. Alfred J. Pinto sang the Easter Hymn. Four readings from the sacred scripture gave a glimpse of the salvation story of Israel and mankind in general. As the Gloria resounded in the air, the image of Risen Jesus got unveiled.

If Christ was not Risen, then there is no meaning in celebrating the Easter. Because it is the strong pillar of Christian faith.

Rev. Fr. Praveen D’ Souza, in his sermon gave an example of a recent documentary film, which consists of three incidents i.e., the orphan & the convict, the Nun & the farmer, Terror & Mom, wherein these incidents tell us that only one who lived in faith, hope & love can forget & forgive and accept others failures. He gave a beautiful message i.e., the sufferings are not the end in itself rather when we overcome from our sufferings, we are blessed with Christ’s glory. So, he advised us not to carry the cross of Jesus but to carry our own daily cross & follow the Risen Lord. This is only possible for one who lives in faith, hope & love.
