Puttur, Apr. 19: Holy Thursday is one of the important and profound days of celebration in the Catholic Church. As Main celebrant Rev Fr Alfred J. Pinto celebrated the holy Eucharist. The significance and the importance of the day was highlighted during the Homily by Rev. Fr. Praveen D’souza stressing on three points. The Institution of the Eucharist, the Priesthood of Jesus and the washing of the feet of the apostles. First and foremost the celebration of the Eucharist was fulfilled in the death of Jesus at the cross; secondly the priesthood is absolutely essential for the life of the Church and the salvation of the world. It is very important because through the hands of the Priest the very presence of Jesus Christ is mediated to all the people; thirdly, through the washing of feet of the apostles, Jesus wants his followers to emulate Him, serving one another in lowliness of heart and mind, seeking to build one another in humility and love. At the conclusion of the Mass, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament was conducted by Bethany sisters followed by ‘Prayer vigil’ by the faithful. Large number of faithful devoutly participated in the celebration.
