The Month of June invites us to contemplate the Sacred Heart of Jesus and his Most Precious Body and Blood. The divinity and humanity of Jesus is present to us now in the Holy Eucharist. “Heart” says something about a person’s centre, depth and root unity. Even daily speech distinguishes between the “heartless” person and the one who is “all heart”. The Sacred Heart of Jesus and his Most Precious Body and Blood manifest his unfathomable love towards us. He gives us his whole being for our eternal salvation. Let us be grateful to God the Father for this magnificent gift of his Son and promote the devotion to Jesus’ humanity and divinity by encouraging personal visits to the Blessed Sacrament, Eucharistic Adoration and the recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. People have become holy through these devotions. Let us pray in a special manner for our country and its leaders during these devotions.

The Feast of Pentecost and the Missionary Outreach: The Spirit of God was poured into the hearts of Mary and the Disciples, and they bore testimony to the Good News of Jesus’ resurrection. The Crucified One is alive, and he sends the whole Church to the existential peripheries today. He sends us to proclaim his message in season and out of season. Our steps must be now geared, in a special way, towards families. Pope Francis invites us in this month to pray for the Christian families around the world, so that they may embody and experience unconditional love and advance in holiness. It is also our bounden duty to initiate the children to be missionaries because they are the torchbearers of our faith. Kindly establish the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) in the parishes to facilitate the formation of children to be the bearers of Christ’s message. The first Sunday of every month is the apt occasion to gather the children for the missionary formation. They can carry the spirit of Christ to their own families and to the neighbourhood and thus invite those who might have abandoned the faith or have estranged themselves from the Church. Remember Blessed Carlo Acutis who persuaded his mother to practise the faith and has also won many adorers for the Eucharistic Lord. May Carlo Acutis inspire the children of our Diocese.

The Tenth World Meeting of Families will be held in Rome from June 22 to 26, 2022 and will focus on the theme “Family Love: A Vocation and a Path to Holiness.” This World Meeting of Families will reflect on the spirituality of the family in the light of the call to holiness expressed in Gaudete et Exsultate. On 26 June, the Year of Amoris Laetitia Family will be concluded. I encourage the Commission for the Family to organize the Festival of Families on this day and invite all for a prayerful and joyful celebration of family life. To facilitate the particular Churches in organizing the meeting, the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life has prepared a pastoral kit containing ideas and suggestions for celebrations at the local level. Kindly refer to website: to prepare for the celebration of the Festival of Families. May our families become true cradles of faith and holiness.

A Family goes to Malawi as full-time Missionary: A member of the Missionary Families of Christ, Mr Jeswin Castelino from Derebail Parish and his wife Mrs Lavisha Saldanha, along with their three children, have been appointed to be a missionary family to go to Malawi, in Africa. They have gladly responded to the missionary call to serve, to evangelize and to renew the families. Mr Jeswin is appointed as the Continent Coordinator of Africa. The Bishop of Mangochi Diocese has invited him to train lay evangelists and empower priests, sisters, catechists and lay people through the Live Christ Share Christ Programme that the movement offers. They will be leaving for Malawi on 14 June 2022. We wish him and his family all the best and pray for God’s protection for this young couple and their kids.

Jubilee of Bishop Emeritus Aloysius Paul D’Souza: Last year, we had organized the celebration of the Episcopal Silver Jubilee of Bishop Emeritus Aloysius Paul D’Souza, but due to the lockdown, we postponed it. We have decided to have a modest celebration this year on 21 June 2022, on his Birthday and Feast Day,to thank God for giving us Bishop Aloysius and to thank him for his selfless service. An invitation is sent in this Internos for all the priests, and separate invitations will be sent to the members of the Diocesan Bodies. Kindly pray for the well-being of Bishop Aloysius. The Holy Mass begins at the Cathedral at 09.30 a.m., and after the Mass, there will be a short felicitation programme in the Church Hall.

Retreat in July: The Retreat for the first batch of priests will be organized at Pastoral Centre from 10 July 2022 evening to 15 July noon. The Retreat preacher is Most Rev. Joseph Raja Rao, Bishop of Vijayawada Diocese. Those who would like to participate in this Retreat batch, kindly register your names in the Pastoral Director’s Office at the earliest.

Pastoral Visits: Those parishes which had the pastoral visit six years’ ago and above, kindly contact the Chancery or the Bishop to organize the pastoral visit. The Chancery will send the Memorandum to fill in and a list of registers and files to be kept ready. A team from Bishop’s House visits the parish before the Pastoral visit and helps the Parish Priest in the preparation.

A Word of Gratitude: The process of Transfers has taken place smoothly, and all the priests have cooperated in it. I sincerely thank all the priests who had to move to the new destination and the Episcopal delegates for helping the Parish Priests take charge. Thank you, dear Brother Priests, for the pastoral care you rendered in the previous parish or institution. Now that a new assignment is given, may the Lord accompany you to fulfil the mandate entrusted to you.

May the Holy Spirit guide us to fulfil God’s will in our Diocese.

+ Peter Paul Saldanha
