The month of February is ever in memory lane because of an historical event of the visit of St John Paul II had taken place in our Diocese of Mangalore at Bajpe on 6 February1986. We also celebrated the Silver Jubilee of his visit in 2011 and soon after his beatification and later on when he was declared a Saint. This great saint had alighted in our Diocese and blessed our Diocese and all the people over 5 lakhs who had gathered on 6 February 1986 to catch his glimpse. We have built a beautiful monument which we have declared as Diocesan Shrine on the place from where he addressed the people on 6 February 1986. We have been celebrating two days in his memory – the day of his canonization and the day of his arrival to Mangalore. This year too a grand celebration is going to take place on 6 February 2017 with a solemn mass at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. I earnestly appeal you to attend any of the masses and honour the saint and obtain his blessings. The Parish Priest of Bajpe, Rev. Fr Leo Lobo will make preparations for the pilgrims. Let us pray that the saint may bless us all in a special manner as he has seen our land.
On 27 February 2017, St Zuze Vas Home for the Senior Priests will be inaugurated and blessed in the campus of St Antony Poor Homes, Jeppu. I cordially invite all the Rev. Fathers to concelebrate with me in the thanksgiving mass at 10 a.m.
The retired priests of our Diocese did not have a comfortable place to spend their retired life together in one place. The existing Vianney Home is too old and beyond repairs. All the same our Rev. Fathers lived in that Home all these years from 1886 without complaint. I wish to thank the Rev. Fathers who are staying there.
Our priests expressed their desire to have one house which could shelter all retired priests. That wish was reasonable. So we thought of building a Home where requirements for a comfortable living be provided for our priests. This is done and the Home is ready for occupation.
Invitation for inauguration and blessing of St Zuze Vas Home is sent to all the priests of the Diocese. We expect all of you. I wish to express my sentiments of gratitude to all our Rev. Fathers for their financial support and I request you once again to support further, this project which costs us pretty high. Your generosity will certainly help us to furnish the house and procure necessary things needed. Your generosity certainly will bring down the burden of the Diocese. I thank God and Mother May, St Joseph and St Zuze Vas for their intercession for the completion of this project. This is our home and we love it and make the stay of the retired priests a comfortable and pleasant one. May St Zuze Vas who walked our streets bless us all.,
