I am pleased to share with you the complements of the season. May the Babe of Bethlehem grant us peace and happiness. I wish each and every one of you a Happy New Year 2017. May the Mother of God bless us all with good health and peace. This year there have been a lot of festivities marking the Christmas season a joyous and peaceful one. Beginning from Bishops House Codialbail Chapel, the other churches in the city as well as rural areas, were well decorated glittering with lights and decorations, artistic and beautiful cribs, stars, Christmas tree etc; troups of youth going round each and every house in the wards with Christmas carols and Christmas message have been a beautiful message to the people around us. Several have put hoardings and flex boards near the churches with the picture of a Holy Family at Bethlehem. I heartily thank you for your active participation in the Christmas festival. I congratulate Fr Onil D’Souza and all who collaborated with him to organize evening motor bike rally of youth of two deaneries ending at Milagres on 21 December. I thank everyone specially the Milagres Parish Priest for their efforts and cooperation.

On 8 January 2017, we hold the Diocesan Annual Eucharistic Procession. The programme starts at 3.30 p.m. with a mass at Milagres church. I request all the Fathers – Diocesan and Religious to concelebrate with me in the mass. The religious are requested to send the members of their institute for the procession. I wish all come in their habits/cassocks. It had been a custom of sending the novices and formees to join the procession. I wish this is continued. The Parish Priests are requested to send Altar boys and choirs for the procession.

I request all the Parish Priests to make special announcements to the faithful to participate in big numbers in the Eucharistic Procession. The lay faithful have requested me to insist on the Parish Priests to announce with the purpose of holding such a beautiful procession in honour of the Blessed Sacrament. On account of your proper catechesis be sure that more people will participate in the procession.

We will inaugurate the year of Small Christian Communities of our Diocese and dedicate this year for deeper participation in the SCC movement. The inaugural programme will take place at the Cathedral grounds after the procession. More details are given in this issue of Internos. The parishes which collected high contribution for Mission Sunday will be given a token of appreciation at the Cathedral. The Director of Pontifical Mission Society will keep you informed about it.

I thank you for your wishes and participation in the mass on my golden Priesthood day at the Cathedral. Several of you have participated in the celebration at Agrar Church. I remain grateful to you and promise my prayers for you and I thank you for praying for me.

I wish all of you a blessed and grace filled New Year 2017. May God grant us and all people, peace, happiness and prosperity. Let us always keep in mind the Christians who suffer for the sake of faith in Middle East and other parts of the world. Let us take the words of the Holy Father in his homily on Christmas – To go back to Bethlehem and learn from the Mystery of Bethlehem and live it in our life – the humility and love of the Son of God born in the manger and his participation in our human nature to accept the whole humanity and his brothers and sisters. I request you to pray for me.

With warm wishes,

+ Aloysius Paul D‘Souza
