I wish you a happy feast of all the Saints and of Rajyothsava of Karnataka on 1 November 2015. On 14 November we will be celebrating the Children’s Day. Though the schools hold the celebrations, I wish that the Parish Priests encourage them to attend the mass in the morning to be held at a convenient time for them and offer special prayers for the children. The children need special attention in the parish as they are the hope of the parish as well as the nation. Please organise some special programmes for them. In most of the parishes number of the children has come down drastically. Where there is a single Parish Priest in the parishes the number is average 25 – 30. Hence good attention could be given to this group. Jesus welcomed the children saying - ‘do not forbid the children from me’ Hence let us also keep the children close to Jesus and the church that He may bless them.

On 27 November 2015 we will be completing one year of the installation of the statue of St John Paul II at the shrine in Bajpe. Ever since devotees are visiting the shrine daily. Fr Felix Noronha is rendering his valuable services at the shrine. The people are coming from distant places in small and big numbers. The confessional services are made available at the place. He holds the prayer service for them. Since this saint had touched the place and prayed for us, we believe that he continues to pray for our Diocese and for all people who visit and pray at the shrine. It is good to hold pilgrimages to this shrine when  associations of the parish intend to go on an annual outing. Our Diocese is blessed with 3 Saints – St Joseph Vaz, St John Paul II and St Mary of Jesus Crucified.

The II batch of retreat will takeplace from 6 evening to 11 noon December 2015. Those who have not made their retreat should attend this retreat in the Seminary. Kindly send your names to the Administrator of the Seminary in November. I would like to remind you that all the Priests of the Diocese are expected to make an annual retreat. The Parish Retreat does not substitute the annual clergy Retreat.

The Holy season of Advent will begin on 29-11-2015. During this season retreats and other spiritual exercises would be held in Parishes to prepare the faithful for the Christmas celebrations. The masses for the sick in their houses to be held during this month. Masses for the sick may be held once in 3 months. It is not necessary that the people of the ward to be present for the mass. The family members may be exhorted to be present for the mass. During the mass the anointing of the sick is to be done. This may give the sick a lot of spiritual strength and consolation in their sickness and advancing age.

On 3 January 2016, the Diocesan Annual Eucharistic procession will be held. On that day please do not hold any programmes or masses in the afternoon specially in Episcopal city, Mangalore City, Suratkal and Mangalore South deaneries. This may facilitate the faithful to attend the Eucharistic procession in large numbers. The mass will take place in Milagres at 3.30 p.m. All the Diocesan and Religious Priests are requested to concelebrate.

I thank all the Parish Priests and the Chaplains of our Diocese to have made lot of efforts to make the mission Sunday a success. The parishioners had taken lot of interest in raising funds for the mission. I thank all of you and invoke God’s blessings upon you.
