We have started the month of August 2015. When we are reminded of the month of August our thoughts are on the Independence day and the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady to heaven. We will be celebrating the 69 Independence Day on 15 August. Till today we Indians have seen the progress that we have made. The progress begins with our own self, that of the family and society at large. India had made a tryst with destiny and in the words of the first Prime Minister, we have accepted the responsibility that we will not rest until every tear from every eye is wiped out. Let us join in this great venture of making India a land to live in peace and prosperity. On this occasion we should think of the urgent need of Christians in civil service, administrative service and bring honest and sincere leadership.
On 15 August we celebrate the feast of assumption of Our Lady into heaven. She is the hope of the humanity redeemed by her son Jesus. Let us pray to her to obtain grace for us to liberate ourselves from the bondages of sin.
This year there was no sufficient rain in our region and in the entire country. This has a bearing on the crops and drinking water. Let us continue to pray for sufficient rains for agriculture and drinking purpose. Whenever a natural calamity happens, we must pray for God’s mercy on us and pray for peace and good climate. Please don’t wait for a circular from me to pray for these intentions.
You have heard that Fr Thomas Myladore SDB passed away in a tragic and terrible vehicle accident on 18 July at 9 p.m. This happened when he and his confreres were returning from a monthly recollection. The jeep fell into a ditch and he suffered several injuries and he and the Principal of Central School, Tumkur passed away on the spot. The funeral service took place on 20 July at Christa Jyothi College, Bangalore, which was attended by our Vicar General and a few priests and a bus- full of people of Pavur mission. He had spent himself at Pavur mission for an all-round development of the people of Pavur. He took up the mission as soon as he laid down his office as Provincial and adjusted like a true missionary to the prevalent situation of Pavur. We express our heartfelt sympathies to the Salesian family and pray for eternal rest to Fr Thomas Myladore and Fr Arulappa SDB.
I express my grief on the death of our brother Fr Thomas D’Souza and pray for eternal rest to him. I thank you for your presence and participation in the funeral rites.
I wish to tell you that I will be going to Rome on 26 August 2015. I will meet the Holy Father and seek his Apostolic blessings upon the Diocese and me. I will be in Rome and in the neighbouring countries for a month and I will be returning to Mangalore on 30 September 2015. I request you to pray for me. In my absence my Vicar General will be in charge of the Diocese.
May God bless you.
