We have already started the Holy Season of lent on Ash Wednesday. This season reminds us of our duty to review our Christian life and make it conformed to the life of Jesus Christ. Jesus started His public Ministry by fast and prayer. The spiritual strength that he gained due to His union with the Father enabled him to overcome the temptations. This should inspire us to spend these 40 days of lent fruitfully by fast, penance, prayer, alms giving, charity, meditating on the Gospels specially the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus. Let us keep up the practices of Way of the Cross, attending daily Mass, adoration, retreat, pilgrimages and service to our neighbour. This would be a fitting preparation for the celebration of Easter.

The spiritual committee of the Diocesan Pastoral Parishad had prepared to have a perpetual adoration with intercessory prayers in a Chapel convenient to the people. Accordingly I have offered the Kodialbail Chapel for such purpose. The adoration has been inaugurated on 18 February, Ash Wednesday. Ever since the adoration is taken place praying for the intentions of all; groups of people are attending the adoration continuously. The spiritual committee under the leadership of Fr Andrew D’ Souza and Mr M. P. Noronha has done a lot of work in this regard. You may send your petitions and prayers to be placed before the Lord during the intercession. The committee has further plans to organise in a better way up to 24 hours. Please pray for this intention. When you or your parishioners happen to come to the city, visit the Chapel where adoration is taking place. You will get more details from the coordinator of Spiritual committee.

During this lent 2015, the CODP has organised a campaign for collecting money for the development works in Kasaragod deanery. There has been a campaign to obtain the OBC facilities to Latin Christians of Kasaragod Taluk. Though other Latin Christians of Kerala are getting the same, the Konkani Latins have been deprived of it. Lot of efforts have gone in for past years. We need finances to back up our work for various surveys etc. There is also an urgent need to assist the parishes who started English Medium Schools. In the initial stages they need financial support to run the schools. In Initial stages it will be a deficit project. If we all support it, this is a blessing to our people in Kasaragod taluk for education. Kindly support the campaign for lent 2015.

The month of March is dedicated to St Joseph, Patron of our Diocese. Let us have special devotion to him. He being the patron of the head of the family, we need to pray to him to protect our families and make them like the Holy family of Nazareth. May St Joseph bless us all.

On 26 March 2015, the blessing of oils and Mass of the Chrism will take place at Rosario Cathedral, Mangalore at 5 p.m. On that day in the morning hours all the Priests will have a pastoral consultation in Pastoral Institute, Bajjodi from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.. At 3.30 p.m. the adoration will take place in the Rosario Cathedral with a talk and confessions. All the priests in the Diocese are expected to participate in the consultation, recollection and Mass of the Chrism. In the morning hours pastoral problems will be addressed to. All the Rev. Fathers are either deanery wise or individually could send the pastoral issues if any to the Secretary of the Priest Council.

The forth coming Synod in Rome has called for the opinions on family life from all over the church. Rev. Fr Santhosh Rodrigues will send a questionnaire which will have to be answered and sent to him as per the schedule.2

The Government has planned to conduct a census in which all castes and faiths will be enumerated. In this regard details will be supplied to you by the Director, CODP. Please cooperate in these 2 important exercises. As regards the census you will have to guide the people how to answer the queries.

I will be going to Same on 11 and return on 24 March. Our high school will be inaugurated during that time. I request you to pray for the mission and also be generous towards the missions; many of you have been already. Those who are yet to contribute towards the mission project are earnestly recommended to do so.

While thanking you for your wholehearted cooperation in the Diocese Pastoral works I promise my prayers for you and invoke God’s blessings upon you.
