April 10, 2019: Three days “Bala Chetana Camp” was organized by The Canara Organization for Development and Peace® at Vidhya Jyothi School, Jyothinagar, Mangalore from 1st to 3rd April 2019. This camp was to motivate the children of migrant workers and construction workers.

The program began with a prayer song by the students of Vidhya Jyothi School.

Sr Premika, Principal of Vidhya Jyothi School welcomed the gathering.

Fr Oswald Monteiro, Director of CODP inaugurated the camp by planting a sapling. He addressed the students and motivated them to work hard and come up in life. He shared the life story of Abraham Lincoln who overcame poverty and became the 16th president of United States. Lincoln’s motto was “Malice towards none, charity towards all!”

Sri Rajashekar, head Constable of Kavoor Police Station, educated children on traffic rules, road safety, POCSO and drug abuse. Sri Harish ASI was also present.

The first day’s session began with an ice-breaking activity conducted by Mrs Reena, staff of CODP. Children introduced themselves and actively participated in memory game.

Mrs Pushpaveni, Animator of CODP, delivered a talk on “Importance of personal hygiene and health”.

Mr Ravikumar Crasta & Mr Peter Dsouza, Coordinators of CODP, delivered a talk on “Leadership and Good Communication Skills”

The second day session was all about healing the mother earth. Ms Lenet Gonsalves, Program Manager of CODP stressed upon the conservation of our environment and recycling plastic waste through PowerPoint presentation, practical demonstrations, group discussions, videos etc.

Mrs Kala Girish, Animator of CODP, delivered a talk on harms of plastic waste and role of children in curbing the menace.

The highlights of third day session were the importance of practicing moral values and love for our country through talk, group discussions and role play. The resource persons were Mrs Shanthi Dsouza, Coordinator and Mrs Lydia Moras, Animator of CODP.

The three day camp was evaluated by Ms Lenet Gonsalves. Sudhanva and Daval from Class 7 delivered the vote of thanks. Sr Premika on behalf of the school thanked CODP for organizing a wonderful camp with a variety of inputs.
