March 21, 2017: The distribution of Government ID cards for Construction Workers was held on 19th March 2017 at Gandhiji Hall of CODP. It was part of CODP’s effort to help unorganized workers to enroll themselves with Labour Department to avail various benefits under a scheme meant for them. Fr. Oswald Monteiro, Director of CODP in his speech said that organization’s vision is to create awareness among the poor and unorganized workers and also to inform them to avail the government welfare schemes and how to develop themselves in the society.
Fr. Valerian Fernandes, Editor of newspaper Raknno, distributed the ID cards to all Construction Workers who had enrolled themselves a few months back. In his speech he said that previously it could not be ascertained who were involved in the construction of a particular building/bridge etc, but after getting ID cards, it can be identified who are involved in the construction of that particular building/bridge. He advised the participants to avail various government welfare schemes for themselves and their families.
