Mangaluru. March 14, 2017: CODP®, Jnanodaya and Infant Jesus Shrine jointly organised a De-addiction Residential Free Camp for our brethren, irrespective of religion, opening it out mainly to the Districts of Mangalore, Udupi & Kasaragod. The Camp was held from 1st March to 5th March 2017.
42 participants belonging to Kulshekar, Bendore, Bondel, Shaktinagar, Kulur, Suratkal, Bajpe, Permude, Neerude, Eliarpadau, Bajjodi, Valencia, Bolar, Naguri, Kelarai, Vamanjoor, Bantwal, Karkala, Kumbla, Bela, Kemmannu, Udupi, Moodbele, Birur, Shakleshpur, Honnavar were present and participated in the entire duration of the Camp. The concluding day witnessed participation from family members of the participants totalling to a gathering of 87.
Emphasising on the importance of living a sober, purposeful and responsible life, Rev. Fr. Oswald Montiero, Director of CODP, highlighted on the Values one needs to inculcate to acheive the above. Fr Oswald quoted true life stories of Ronald Reagan and Charlie Chaplin and their victories over rejection, resulting in achievements which have made them Legends in their respective fields of Politics and Cinema. He added, 'Lent is a new beginning, a path leading to the certain goal of Easter, Christ’s victory over death. Even when we sin, He patiently awaits our return. This is the time we focus on starting a new and purposeful life and contribute to society at large.
Mr. Mark Dsouza of Jnanodaya laid down to the participants the message of Alocholics Anonymous. He said 'AA is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety'.
The participants expressed their happiness and satisfaction by way of voluntarily requesting for a refresher to the Camp. Based on the discussions that followed, 25th and 26th March 2017 were decided upon. The participants expressed their gratefulness for the support from CODP and warm atmosphere provided by Jnanodaya volunteers and Infant Jesus Shrine for the Venue.
