Responding to the call given by the Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Rt. Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Shakthingar was cleaned up and people joined hands with the Prime Minister of India in realizing his dream of ‘Swachch Bharath’ on the auspicious day of Kannada Rajyothsava.

This was a collective effort of Mother of God Church and the local associations like Shakthi Friends’ Club®, Seven Guys, Mugrodi, Tuluvere Koota®, Jnanadeepa Mahila Mandali, Jyothi Sthri Shakthi Kendra, Deepa Anganavadi, Autorikshaw Drivers’ and Owners’ Association, Shakthinagar and Lions’ Club, Milagres.

The campaign was inaugurated by the guests, sweeping one of the streets and pasting posters and distributing handbills with tips for a clean environment. RJ from 92.7 FM, Mr Roopesh spoke about the significance of the day and reminded people’s responsibility in keeping their surroundings clean. Rev. Fr. Walter D’Souza shared twelve important and practicable tips for a clean environment and invoked God’s blessings on the occasion.

After this, people swept and removed garbage from roads and residential places very enthusiastically. Rev. Fr. Walter D’Souza presided over the programme. The local corporator Mrs. Akhila Alva and other guests were present on the occasion. Mr Denis Machado welcomed the gathering. Mr Vincent D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks and Mr Yashwanth D.S. compered the programme.
